7 Days Lemosho Route Kilimanjaro Trekking

Day 1: Arrival in Tanzania

Upon your arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), you’ll be warmly welcomed by Safari Spirit Journeys and transferred to your hotel in Arusha. Here, you’ll receive a detailed briefing, complete a gear check, and finalize preparations for your trek. The rest of the day is yours to relax and acclimate to the environment. Enjoy dinner and an overnight stay at the hotel.

Day 2: Londorossi Gate (2,100m) to Mti Mkubwa Camp (2,820m)

After breakfast, a scenic drive takes you to Londorossi Gate (2,100m) for registration. From there, you’ll proceed to the Lemosho trailhead. The trek begins through a beautiful and dense rainforest, where you may spot blue monkeys and Colobus monkeys in the trees. The path is gradual, allowing you to ease into the hike before arriving at Mti Mkubwa Camp (2,820m), where you’ll spend the night under the forest canopy.

Day 3: Mti Mkubwa Camp (2,820m) to Shira 2 Camp (3,850m)

Leaving the rainforest behind, the trail ascends into the heather and moorland zone. You will traverse the scenic Shira Plateau, a vast and breathtaking expanse with stunning views of Mount Meru in the distance. After passing Shira 1 Camp, the trek continues towards Shira 2 Camp (3,850m), where you will enjoy dinner and an overnight stay, surrounded by the open landscapes of the plateau.

Day 4: Shira 2 Camp (3,850m) to Barranco Camp (3,950m) via Lava Tower (4,630m)

Today is an essential acclimatization day as you ascend to Lava Tower (4,630m). The landscape transforms into an alpine desert, offering dramatic views of Kibo Peak. After a short rest at Lava Tower, you will descend to Barranco Camp (3,950m). This descent helps with acclimatization and allows your body to adjust to the altitude. The famous Barranco Wall, a thrilling yet manageable climb, looms ahead as you settle into camp.

Day 5: Barranco Camp (3,950m) to Karanga Camp (4,035m)

The day begins with the exciting climb up the Barranco Wall, a non-technical but steep ascent that rewards you with spectacular views. Once at the top, the trail gradually undulates across the alpine desert before reaching Karanga Camp (4,035m). This short trekking day aids in further acclimatization, ensuring your body is well-prepared for the higher altitudes ahead.

Day 6: Karanga Camp (4,035m) to Barafu Camp (4,673m)

After breakfast, the trek continues towards Barafu Camp (4,673m), the base camp for your summit push. The landscape becomes more barren, with strong winds and cold temperatures marking your arrival in the Arctic zone. Upon arrival, trekkers prepare their gear, rest, and enjoy an early dinner before attempting the summit in the early hours of the morning.

Day 7: Barafu Camp (4,673m) to Uhuru Peak (5,895m) and descent to Mweka Camp (3,100m)

The summit push begins around midnight, with a slow and steady climb towards Stella Point (5,739m) on the crater rim. As the sun rises, the final stretch to Uhuru Peak (5,895m), the highest point in Africa, is both challenging and rewarding. After celebrating at the summit, the descent begins, passing through Barafu Camp before continuing down to Mweka Camp (3,100m), where trekkers rest for the final night on the mountain.

Day 8: Mweka Camp (3,100m) to Mweka Gate (1,640m) – Return to Moshi

The final descent leads through the lush rainforest, filled with birdsong and fresh mountain air. A hot shower, a comfortable bed, and a warm meal await, marking the end of an unforgettable Kilimanjaro adventure.

Day 9: Departure

Depending on your flight schedule, you can spend a relaxing morning in Arusha, exploring the town or simply resting, before being transferred to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your departure—or the start of your next Tanzanian adventure.
